Build Your Super Hero Reputation

Whether you’re looking for leads, or leads are looking for you, one thing is certain: trust is essential. And trust is built on how you’re known.

It’s quite remarkable to realise just how much influence you can have by building a strong, positive presence. We all want to come across the right way, especially in the voiceover industry, where professional etiquette matters, both on social media and in real-life interactions.

Reputation is everything

Potential clients will look at your background: your website, your voice reels, your testimonials. A strong reputation attracts quality leads and quality leads open doors to an amazing voiceover career.

And here’s a truth that stands out above everything else when it comes to building a “super-hero” reputation: It’s all about THEM.

So, how do you go about building a reputation that makes people want to work with you? Here are five key points that have helped me. I hope they’ll help you too.

It all starts with quality

Know who you are, what you do and what you bring to the table. You don’t have to know everything (nobody does), but you do need to consistently offer your best.

Quality should shine through in your demos, phone calls and emails, social media posts and in-person interactions. This is all part of voiceover etiquette and part of your brand.

Know your target group

Who are you trying to build a reputation with? What are their needs?

When you know your audience, you can tailor your communication to resonate with them. For example, a versatile voice actor might have a variety of demo reels. Showcase your versatility, but also tailor it specifically to the company or person you are talking to. You could explain that you thought of them, so you wanted to reach out and send this specific demo which you think could be a good fit, whilst at the same time letting them know you also offer other genres too.

Help your prospects understand what you offer and why they need to know about it. That’s what builds trust and credibility.

What’s your role in the voiceover industry? What makes you unique?

Attracting the Right Clients Starts with Self Awareness

Think about your ideal client. Do they want a creative collaborator or someone who’s punctual, professional and gets the job done without the drama-lama?

Understanding how your ideal client works allows you to align your approach in a way that naturally draws them in. It’s not about being everything to everyone. It’s about adapting your style to match how they operate best.

Every client values different things. Sometimes, working well with others matters more than being the most talented. Success often comes down to how you work with people, not just what you create.

Show the world what you can do!

Once you’ve defined the reputation you want to build, start living it, consistently.

Let every piece of your personal brand reflect your values. Think about what you say online. What do you publish and share, and what not? Your profile pictures and bio needs to be visible and relatable to your brand. Present yourself well at networking events. You could even think about starting a blog or newsletter, establishing a connection with your clients on a regular basis.

Be the person who advises, helps and guides. Most importantly: Amaze your clients! Because at the end of the day, our job as voice artists is to help them build their reputation too.

Amaze Your Clients. You’re there to help them build their reputation too.

Let others speak for you

Testimonials are gold. Whether you feature them on your website or share them on social media, they show potential clients why you are the right person for the job. You can even spotlight your favorite clients and collaborators, people usually love a little praise!

It’s about lifting others up and they’re more likely to return the favor. This builds a network of mutual trust and a great reputation in the process.

Final thoughts

Building a “super-hero” reputation takes time, but the rewards are enormous. It boosts your confidence, sharpens your focus and helps you deliver an outstanding service.

And when you help your clients look good? They’ll keep coming back to their favorite super-hero: YOU!
