From Studio Upgrades to ‘The Sound of Success’
Back in 2019, I made a decision that would change the way I approached my voiceover work. At the time, I was content with the studio setup I had. It was good, functional, reliable and got the job done.
But as a professional, something didn’t align. I wanted to elevate my sound from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’, something that not only met the needs of my clients but exceeded them.
The goal was to create audio that was not just ‘fine’, but truly exceptional. Something warm, smooth and polished that could be used right away without any post-production headaches.
Fast forward a few years and I’m proud to say that my decision was a game-changer. I invested in equipment that turned my sound into something that literally turned ears and delivered exceptional audio.
Why it was time for an upgrade
After consulting with top producers and audio experts, I chose to upgrade to the SSL Alpha Channel, a high-end channel strip that’s known for its incredible sound quality. This piece of equipment was the key to achieving that silky smooth, punchy and professional sound that clients love. In a sense you could say that adding this piece of equipment was the secret sauce.
Do I still provide a clean signal without processing? Of course I do! It’s really easy to switch off my Alpha Channel and I can record myself without sound processing too, which is ideal for clients who are looking for a clean signal.
I am truly grateful for the sound experts that I work with and rely on for ‘sound’ advice. They have many decades of experience, from producing commercials for radio and television to movie theatres and music videos for famous artists in the MTV era.
When I switched on the Alpha Channel for the first time, I instantly heard the difference! More clarity and warmth in my voice recordings. Clients also noticed this immediately and asked if I had changed something in my studio, because it sounds so nice and warm.
“What an amazing sound, I hardly have to make any changes to the audio.”
